This morning, I managed to complete only my second ever 10k. The first was in September of last year, when I scraped in under an hour with a time of 59m 39s. When I signed up for this morning’s event, I did so with a confidence and bravado that did not match up to the training schedule I eventually put myself through. As a result of this, I was numbered to start in the first group, for runners aiming to complete the course in under 50m. I sneakily moved myself into the presence of the slower runners.
In the end, despite not doing as much training as I would’ve liked, I took 5m 31s of last year’s time and completed the race in 54m 08s, a time I am absolutely delighted with. Not only that, but I’m half a stone lighter than I was when I started my training schedule.
Next up is the half marathon in September; scarily, it’s only 11 weeks away.
